Inventory: Creating and Editing Bill of Materials

A Bill of Materials (BOM’s), also known as Kits, Kitting or Bundles, is a type of SKU/Product that is offered on a marketplace and consists of other SKU’s/Products.

For example, my Mother’s Day bundle is an exclusive offer where I combine 1 Hand Cream and 2 Bars of Soap for a single purchase.

So, my Bill of Materials is like this:

Product Code: XYZ Product Description: Mother’s Day Bundle

And its Contents look like this

Bill of Materials:

Product 1

  • Product Code: ABC
  • Product Description: Hand Cream
  • QTY: 1

Product 2

  • Product Code: DEF
  • Product Description: Bar of Soap
  • QTY: 2

To start making a BOM, we first must create the “Parent” Product. This is the bundle Product that we will offer on the Marketplace, and orders will use this Product Code to integrate with eStore.

Creating the Parent Product

Warning

BOM SKUs can only be SKUs with item category 'B'. A product with item category 1 as 'B' is required.

To create a parent product, follow these steps:

  1. Navigate to Inventory -> Products on the sidebar. This will take you to the products page.
  2. Click on the Add new button at the lower left of the page. Alternatively, you can use the Upload file button to upload an XLS/XLSX/CSV file of SKUs.
  3. Fill in the required details in the popup. Ensure you select item category 1 as ‘B’ to create a Parent BOM SKU

For more detailed information on creating a Product please check out the product creation page.
